An 80% decrease in passenger numbers has forced Regional Express into cancelling all of its Wagga flights. REX says operations will cease with effect from the 6th of April unless the Federal and State governments are able to underwrite services.. This comes after last week’s announcement from Regional express, that a large number of Wagga services would be reduced as the realities of the COVID 19 pandemic set in. The airline also announced that they would not give refunds to passengers with bookings after April 6. Bookings will be put on credit for future flights if Rex survives and continues in the future with passenger services.
Rex deputy chairman John Sharp said it was a necessary decision in light of the 80% decrease in passenger numbers and heavy loses made by the company.
